Laser Engraved Stargate

I thought I'd have a go at a laser engraving project, and here is the result! I do not pretend to be a photographer and I don't have a good camera, but hopefully these capture it well enough. I chose the Milky Way stargate because it has a lot of fine detail and I wanted to see how much I could get out of the machine. The gate is cut from clear acrylic (6" gate diameter), and the base is wood (also laser cut). I put a red LED strip in the base before assembling the wood layers. I know, I know, the event horizon is blue, but the chevron lights are red, and red light is less harsh at night than blue. 

This gate is a derivative work based on two different pieces of stargate artwork on Wikimedia Commons, both licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution - Share Alike 3.0 Unported license. I adapted them so that they would be more conducive to a laser engraving job. Attributions here:
